Can Metrogyl Syrup Be Taken For Loose Stools?

Hello doctor, My 14 month old is passing loose stools. Can I administer nor metrogyl syrup 2.5ml 3 times for 3 days Does it have any side effect Plz guide me Urs sincerely, Confused mom:-(

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Asad Riaz, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.
loose stool can be due to many causes ,it can be infectious,can be de to lactolose intolernce,can be due to bowel pathology etc...infective diareha also have any bugs causing it that only respond to specific therapy ..like vibrio cholera ,e.coli etc..if u were my pateint i would like to ask dteail history that how many episode doe occur,is there blood in it?,duration etc..do detail exam n then run some tests like cp to look for infection,stool r/e n ovas,cyst for parasites etc...then will treat accordngy...this syp contain metronidazle that is can used for this age group with dose 7.5mg/kg(max 500mg/d 3 divided doses)..it does not cause side effects mostlybut its knwn side effects are..GIT upsets,unpleasant taste,leukpenia,CNS prob,urticaria etc...
