had marina coil fitted can now feel the string and in alot of pain. called own gp at hospital, theve tolds me to wait until tomorrow, but im fearing infection as am very tight bleeding and it smells funny, not like BV. but like rotten sperm. can you help thanks

Hello,

It could be due to infection secondary to the intrauterine device. You can go for a vaginal swab to confirm the diagnosis. You can take Metronidazole tablets empirically and use Clotrimazole vaginal wash to clean the genitals. If symptoms persist, better to consult a gynecologist and confirm whether the coil is misplaced or not. In case of misplaced coil, it has to be removed and re inserted.
