Can Mumbling To Yourself And Short Term Memory Loss Be Signs Of Dementia?
my father is 87 and has a short memory loss and forgets where he puts thing sometimes. My question is only over the last 12 months my father can be heard mumbling or silently sort of talking to himself everywhere, in the car at home joutside in the backyard it is constant even when cleaning the kitchen up. It really is a worry. He said to me he does not know he is doing it so I am thinking it is the an early sign of Dementia? Can you help me? As my father is not doing anything about it even when I ask him to go to the doctor to see about it.
From you question you are concerned that you father maybe having signs of dementia. He is having episodes of memory problems and at times seems to be talking to himself. These can be early signs. I know that patients with early dementia usually deny they are having problems and it can be very difficult for them to seek help. I recommend you continue to give him support and when he agrees seek medical attention from his doctor.
