Can My Son S Low Platelet Count With High Lymphocytes Indicate Leukemia?
My son has tested positive for mono (he is 10) at an Urgent Care facility and he has bruising on his gums. Hi lab results show his lymphocytes as being high at 78% and his platelets are low at 162. I tried to get some idea bout what this means and keep coming across articles that leukemia can cause false positive mono tests and result in the high lymph, low platelet situation. He sees his PCP tomorrow and I am just wondering if I need to worry???
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Your son has high lymphocytes count. But lymphocytes morphology is normal so no need to worry. High lymphocytes and low normal platelet count suggest viral infection. So he is suffering from mono. No need to worry. Just be relaxed. Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. It is very common in children. Hope I have answered your question, if you have any doubts then contact me at bit.ly/Drsanghvihardik, I will be happy to answer you. Thanks for using health care magic.
