Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yesterday I fell in a park and fractured my nose. The doctor at the medical center took an X-ray and said that he sees a strait line, then a gap and the the line again. He also told me that you cannot fix a broken nose and that a broken nose heals itself. Right now my nose is swelling. There is a small cut between the eyebrows and another small one in the middle of the nose. Both cuts and other abrasions were medicated. I am going to see a ENT tomorrow. I have no pain at all. Just swelling on the cheek bones and in the inner eyes. Is true that nose bratures heal themselves? Thank you for your answer. Maddalyn Carlise
Hello, yes, your doctor is right in thinking that most of the nasal bone fracture heals with out surgery. But some time there can ne malunion and than these frature can cause problem during breathing . So I would recommend you to show it to ENT surgeon and get it properly splinted. Some time they put special bandage to keep fragment in proper position, Do not delay this visit as these fracture unites very quickly. Till you go there apply ice around nose and do not blow your nose. I hope this answer will help you . Let me know if there is any other follow up questions. thanks.
