Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was give 1g of azithromycin for Chalmydia. I took it 5 days ago. My results came back and I have gonorrhea too. Do I have to buy the 500 cefeximin since I took the azithromycin 5 days ago. My symptoms are gone I am just worried I might have not cured the gonorrhea.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I can understand your concern. Incomplete data like age, gender, presenting symptoms, etc. Since you have completed a course of Azithromycin for the eradication of Chlamydiae there is no need to take Cefixime for the treatment of Gonorrhea (which happened to be co-existing in your case) because Azithromycin is effective against Gonorrhea as well. As a matter of fact; 1. To avoid re-infection, both the sex partners should be treated for these sexually transmitted diseases. 2. It’s important not to have unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex until treatment is completed & the infection has cleared up. Hope I could answer your query. A feed back is appreciated.
