Can One Request For General Anesthesia Before A J-stent Removal Surgery?

Hi. I have a kidney stone, and a j-stint was put in, when the doctor removed another kidney stone that was right above the bladder. The problem is, I am in more pain with the stint, then I was before the surgery!! I told the nurse I want this stint out, so she made an appointment. But the problem, is they want to take it out in the office- with no sedation or anything!!!!! I have a condition, that causes hypersensitivity to any kind of pain or discomfort. I'm scared to have this removed like that!!! I've always had stints removed during surgery, completely asleep from general anesthesia. As a patient, I am easily pushed around, so to speak. I respect medical staff and do not like to be pushy to get my way. But, I really do not want to be awake while the stint is removed. Do I have the right to request that they put me to sleep for this? I'm afraid they will be angry, as they said it I was told it takes 5 mins. in office to get done. If I didn't have the pain sensitivity, I wouldn't make a fuss. But, I am scared. :(
Thank you for your time. God bless.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It’s a simple procedure and can be done in minutes. General anesthesia is not required as it has got complications.

If you are worried much you can go for spinal anesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
