Can One Stop Taking BP Medicines Once Normal?

Do I need to ween myself off of Ramipril, or can you just stop taking it? My Blood pressure is going down from losing weight. I was thinking of taking one every other day for a week, then stop. Didn t take one this morning and I m still holding at 115/68 pulse 64.

BP medicines is almost life long treatment. However if a person strictly follows diet control ,exercise regularly ,avoids smoking and drinking and if BP comes to normal with these steps, he can make an attempt to stop taking BP medicine. If you follow the life style modifications as mentioned above, you can also try to stop BP medicine. If repeated BP measurement after stopping medicine is normal then probably you can stop medicine. However Tablet Ramipril is given not only for hypertension but also for patient with heart failure and diabetic nephropathy. Hence it is advisable to consult physician before stopping Ramipril.
