Can Oral Herpes Lie Dormant For Twenty Five Years?
I have had oral herpes since I was about 11 years old. After I had my first child I do not get an attack frequently. Maybe once a year at the most. I have been married to my husband for 25 years and I have never kissed him when I had cold sore. He has never had oral herpes in the past. The last 6 months he has broken out with oral herpes. Is it possible that it took 25 years for him to have contracted it from me

Viral shedding can happen few days prior to recurrence and also few days after the episode. Recurrence depends upon various factors including your immunity and recent illness etc, as virus persist in posterior nerve ganglia not amenable to drugs for years. So there is every possibility that you can transmit the infection to your husband even after 25 years.
