Can Oral Yeast Infection Be Indicative Of Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)?
Hi I was having vaginal discomfort before i started my menstrual cycle and I believed it to be a yeast but then I thought of it as my ph was unbalanced because my cycle was coming so while on my cycle i ended up having to go to the Doctor for a sore throat that I thought was strep because I had it before but the results were negative and the doctor still treated me with an antibiotic. So while on the medicine for ten days I was also taking my birth control so after the medicine was all taken I felt better and my throat looked tons better..then like 3 days later I feel my throat is soar and I look back there and it looks and feels like strep again..so I go to the doctor and they diagnose me with oral yeast infection. I just wanted to know what could this possibly be steaming from because this has never happened to me and im really nervous because when I look it up its always tied to having HIV and I have had unprotected sex so im really really nervous right now..should I worry so much?

Thought Oral yeast infection Or "Thrush" is very much a part of the symptom complex of HIV but in your case it is most likely to be a result of the recent Oral antibiotics that you were prescribed by your doctor for sore throat. You did feel better with these antibiotics but then again you developed sore throat and this time it was due to overgrowth of yeast. Thrush is a very common complication in those who are taking broad spectrum oral antibiotics. Oral antibiotics alter the balance of normal inhabitant bacterial flora and this might allow the yeast/candida to proliferate unhindered thereby manifesting as thrush. Nevertheless, you have a history of unprotected sex, therefore, I would suggest that you present yourself for a screening test for HIV. If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use a topical antifungal mouth paint locally. An Oral antifungal e.g fluconazole can be added in addition to the antifungal mouth paint for faster resolution. It is a prescription drug and you may talk with your treating doctor for the needful.
