Can Paracetamol Be Given To A Child For High Fever?
dear doctor, my daughter who is one year old have been suffering from viral fever for the past 5 days but doctor advised us to give only paracetemol because baby does not suffer anything else like cough sneezing... and he also said the baby has to take only paracetemol but baby is having high temperature as high as 103 degree celsius and still doctor says give paracetemol once in 3 hours for another a weeks time is that not advisable to give any antivirals please help me sir i am also an mbbs doctor
A common viral is unlikely to persist beyond 5 days. Any how, if he she is otherwise active, playful and feeding well, we can wait for up to 1 week. If not getting better by then, we will need further evaluation. Depending on clinical details, this might include urine analysis, peripheral smear, Widal test and blood culture. But, do not give paracetamol more than 4 times a day.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
