I have a question related to women's yeast infections. My wife and I were separated from Nov 09 to Feb 10. She is an alcoholic and her favorite beverage of choice is Beer (Believe me, she can put them away). I travel for a living and have been gone up to 3 weeks a month since we got back together in early Mar of this year. During Jan and Feb, my wife contacted me claiming that she had a yeast infection and asked that I pay for the DR's visit. I have now paid for a DR's vist every month since then including a visit she had today. That makes 5 months in a row that she has had a yeast infection. She claims that the DR told her it's related to her excessive beer drinking and that she needs to slow down or quit. I found this hard to believe considering that she has had a yeast infection once a month for the last 5 months in a row. We have been together for 3 years and she hasn't slowed down her drinking during this time and has only had 1 or 2 yeast infections in the previous 2 1/2 years. In looking online, I found that a women with a tongue piercing that drinks beer could obtain a yeast infection from the yeast in the beer or that beer can contribute to an existing yeast infection.
My Question: How likely is it that beer causes these continued yeast infections or actually contributes to them or what are the other causes? I was home the week of April 25-May 2, she had consummed the normal amount of beer the week before I came home and while I was home and I didn't notice anything related to a yeast infection. Then no more then 5 to 6 days after I left, she claimed that she needed to make a DR's appointment regarding a yeast infection (This last Thursday).
