I am just finishing my placebo pills in my pack and have not yet gotten my period. I have not missed any pills and am having lower abdominal cramping and breast soreness like my period is coming but nothing. I took a pregnancy test yesterday that was negative.
Placebo pills are unlikely to cause a delayed period. Since you have not missed any pills, likely causes are sudden weight changes, stress, infections and use of certain medications that can cause a transient hormone disturbance. A home pregnancy test reads best when done 3-7 days after a missed period using a fresh early morning sample of urine.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
When you are taking your OC pills regularly, without a break. You would not be pregnant. Not the placebo pills but any physical or psychological stress can cause delay. You should start with new pack of pills after finishing previous pack. Take it regularly. In case the next period is also delayed. Consult your treating gynecologist to evaluate for other causes for menstrual irregularity.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
