Hello,
Though the effect of the pill may stay for up to five days after intake, it cannot be said that this makes you 100 percent safe. Yet, the fact that you had the breakthrough bleed suggests that you are safe. The hormonal imbalance created by the high hormone content of the pill leads to such disturbances. You may also have a delayed period subsequently. Please use regular contraception and limit the use of the emergency pill only to a couple of times a year for the real emergencies as it can cause severe hormonal disturbances and fertility issues in future. Hope this helps.
