Can Prematurity Cause Excess Damage On Lungs With Smoking?
My boyfriend is premature and 20 years old and we were just talking about quitting smoking. I heard that a when a baby is premature and they begin smoking it will kill them alot faster because of the under-devoloped lungs. Is this true?
Simple to see. The lung problems most associated with prematurity will NOT be relevant generally even a few months after delivery. Premature infants notoriously do not have the lubrication to keep the lungs open. These soapy like chemicals are made by the time the infant leaves the hospital and are not an issue after that. In theory, anyone with any birth defect might have lungs that have a lower amount of volume. Simply comparing how much volume someone has compared to yours would tell that. (take a deep breath and see how much you can each inflate a balloon; if his is half yours, that's bad).
