Can Progesterone Be Produced In Body After Undergoing Total Hysterectomy?
I was found to be allergic to my progesterone. I had a complete hysterectomy in August of last year...Things seems find until a few months ago and now around the 10th- 15 of the month I am once again breaking out in hives and having facial swelling. Last night I went back to the ER because of my throat swelling up. They put me back on a huge amout of steroids and I am really scared that this is all starting again. Before my surgery I was in the ER 3-5 times a week and even had to be intubated a few times. My question is... can a body start producing progesterone even after a full hysterectomy (obviously I have NO type of hormone replacement) Please Help I am so scared that this nightmare is going to start up again

Can Progesterone Be Produced In Body After Undergoing Total Hysterectomy?
Hi, If both the ovaries were removed (oophorectomy)with complete uterus during hysterectomy, the progesterone cannot be produced in your body after the surgery. But if ovaries are preserved. The hormone may be produced. Again the symptoms you have can occur due to the different allergen. Which needs to be found &avoided/desensitized for complete relief. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
