Can Prolonged Stiff Neck Be A Symptom Of A Serious Illness?

Hi. Im donna. Im 52 years old. I have had a stiff neck for about 6 months now. Its very uncomfortable. I cant turn my neck and it feels sore up toward my head from my ears down. Ive tried a laying on a heating pad, soaking in wsrm/hot water, i message my neck , put cream like icy hot on it and nothing seems to help. I have no insurance so its kinda hard to go see a doctor. Im really getting worried plus its about yo make me crazy with pain and being uncomfortable. Do u think its just a pulled joint or something or could it be more serious since the doreness is up toward my head as well

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a cervical spondylitis.

Consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI scan for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
