Can Radon Poisoning Cause Coughing Issues?

my name is mary. my question is I live in a place that is over 100 years old. Me and my daughter have been experiencing breathing issues. I am concerned because we found out this summer that the radon system hasn't been on in 1o years and there's mold in my house. My daughter has had coughing issues over the last 4 weeks and she can't shake it. Could this be due to radon poisoning?

Thanks for contacting HCM

I see you are concerned about possible radon poisoning as the cause of your cough. Radon is a radioactive gas that comes form the decay of uranium and if it builds up in a house it can over a long period of time increase your risk of lung cancer. I think it is important to get the radon monitoring device replaced.

The more likely cause of your cough is the mold. That should be treated immediately and my resolve your coughing.

In summary
1. Mold infestation causing cough
2. Get mold treated immediately
3. Radon gas increases lung cancer risk
4. Have radon system repaired
