Can Reducing Percocet Dosage Cause Irregular Heartbeat?

I have been on Vicodin for 1 1/2 years and changed to Percocet 2 months ago. 10-325 3 times daily. I m now getting off of Percocet and take 1 10-325 tablet daily because It was not helping my pain. I have now developed an irregular heartbeat. Is this a result of reducing the Percocet?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear patient,
Thanks for your concerns about Percocet,
and welcome to Health Care Magic.

I will answer your question by saying that the irregular heart beats you are experiencing are indeed because of Percocet.

For your kind information, Percocet is a combination of acetaminophen 325mg and oxycodone 10mg. acetaminophen is a drug that acts on your brain to relieve pain signals to the nerves of your body. Oxycodone is a drug that resembles naturally occurring pain killers in your body.

Vicodin is also a combination of two drugs, namely acetaminophen 500mg and hydrocodone 5mg. Hydrocodone stimulates the brain to relieve sensations of pain in the body.

Please follow these suggestions,
1. Do not suddenly lower the dose of Percocet in an attempt to stop it.
2. Take the advice of a medical professional while reducing and tapering off
Percocet.
3. You need to be assessed by a doctor, while Percocet is being removed
from your body. This will avoid unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
4. Please do not self medicate after reading information on websites on the
internet. This is no substitute for a Doctor, so far as Percocet is
concerned.
5. There are no problems with your heart. You can be assured.

Frankly, I feel that you will be quite fine.
I feel that this information will help you.
