I had the iud fitted yesterday and it was a painful procedure with the Dr describing me as a technical difficulty . I haven t had children which I don t think helped and it took 4 attempts to get in as I pushed the speculum out twice! I keep coughing now and I m wondering if that can push the iud out? The main cramps have gone and I m not really bleeding now- I m just sore down there- possibly from the poking- is this normal too? My long term boyfriend returns from America in less than two days after being away for more than 6 weeks and also wondered how long do you have to wait after having it fit to have sex? Lots of questions sorry!
Hi, If you have had the hormonal IUD inserted within the first seven days of your cycle, it is immediately effective. At any other time, you need to use extra protection. ParaGard is immediately effective. Simple coughing does not push an IUD out. You can check for the threads if you are in doubt and can contact your consultant if necessary. The soreness is a normal phenomenon due to the instrumentation and will clear out in a couple of days. Intercourse can be had soon after an IUD insertion. Hope your queries are clarified. Take care.
