Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Shoulder Pain And Swelling Due To A Spider Bite Be Treated?
I was biten by a spider on the front of my right shoulder about 2 in. above my armpit 3 days ago. It swelled up and was painful. I went to the doc and she put me on keflex. Now I am 24 hours into the antibiotics and aspirin and ice are not really helping with the pain. Is there anything else I might be able to do that would help?
Thanks for contacting HCM I am sorry to hear that you were bitten by a spider on your shoulder. Spider bites usually cause only local reactions and from your description this still sounds like a local reaction. You have already seen your doctor who thinks the bite has become infected and started you on antibiotics. The antibiotics may take a few days to fully work and reduce the infection. Using Ice will help too. I also recommend adding topical hydrocortisone to reduce any allergic reaction that maybe occurring in the bite.
Hope this answers your question. Please contact us again with your concerns.
