Can Smoking Marijuana Cause Cartilage Breakdown?

Is it true that marijuana can cause cartiledge breakdown? I have extreme everyday pain in my neck, shoulders and one of my knees. I smoked marijuana constantly for 4 years and quit about a year ago. I've heard that it can cause cartiledge breakdown and my friend who had been smoking for most of her life recently found out that she didnt have any cartiledge left between her vertibraes.

No, is a better answer.
