Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had extreme nightmares in which he feels the urgency to flee a danger and has rolled out of the bed to the floor a couple times. He is active and in good general health, although he has had a mild heart attack about 15 years ago, a triple by pass 2 years ago,is taking medication for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Am wondering if this could b e the result of any side effects from the medications.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Unfortunately you haven't mentioned exactly what drugs he's using, so an individualized answer cannot be given. I can only say that there are indeed certain medications that may cause nightmares particularly beta-blockers. If he's taking a beta-blocker then attributing his nightmares to the drug would be reasonable particularly if the symptom started right after this drug what prescribed to him. Pindolol, Propranolol, Metoprolol cause nightmares more frequently than Atenolol or carvedilol. You can ask another questions, if you'd like, mentioning the names of the drugs he's taking.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
