Can Stress Cause Alopecia Areata?

is alopecia areata caused by stress alone? i would like to believe the answer is no.....no one in my family has it....so i know its not hereditary.......are there any hollistic/ ayervedic medications that may help? i started drinking braggs apple cider vinegar every morning as well as olive oil but i am switching to virgin coconut oil as i was told it was way better than olive oil. i even researched it myself......i need help with this....its overwhelming now.....am i doing the correct thing? please assist

Alopecia areata can be aggravated or triggered by stress. But it is unlikely to be the sole reason for the disease onset.
As for holistic approaches, there are few ongoing trials for yoga as an adjuvant treatment. But no studies have proven its role as a monotherapy. It should be started along with other medical treatments. Relaxation techniques and meditation will help.
But, please visit a dermatologist for proper management of the condition. You need to be started on steroid applications/injections or minoxidil therapy depending on the severity.
