Can Swelling In Thyroid Glands & Pain In Wisdom Tooth Related?
hi, I have an impacted wisdom tooth that has given me a lot of pain and discomfort. Then I was reading about thyroid nodules and I do have my glands swollen a lot difficulty breathing too. And my doctor is saying that I may have thyroid issues. What is the possible link there?
Hello, Thank you for consulting with HCM. Actually when there is infection of wisdom tooth, there is definitely pain and swelling of the area and even there will be swelling of a submandibular lymph node which is situated adjacent to thyroid gland. It can be possible that you might be confusing with this lymph node. So better you visit your dentist and get a complete examination of the swelling done. Hope it will help you.
Thyroid problem can sometimes cause early eruption the tooth, though pain and discomfort is not associated with it.
Impaction of the wisdom tooth on itself can be of discomfort when it is not erupting and putting pressure on the adjacent tooth thus causing pain in the area. I would advice you to visit a oral and maxillo-facial surgeon and get a X-ray done to evaluate the position of the tooth and get it extracted.
Evaluate your thyroid status before the extraction of the tooth giving correct information to the dentist.
Hope this was helpful. Thanks and regards.
