Can Symptoms Of Cold Affect Parotidectomy Surgery?
Hi I am scheduled for parotidectomy surgery in two days. I have woken up the morning with a cold. Stuffy nose, cough, tickly throat etc. I am wondering if they will go ahead with the surgery if I am still displaying these symptoms on the day of surgery? What can I do to enhance my chances of recovery without comprimising my readiness for surgery? Kelly
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...
As per your complain as you are scheduled for Parotidectomy surgery and you are suffering from common cold like symptoms which is commonly due to viral infection and at times it can be due to viral infection with secondary bacterial infection. In case if you have an active infection at the time of surgery there are chances of getting infection at the site of surgery as well as Septicemia leading to generalized symptoms like fever, body ache and dizziness.. You should consult your treating surgeon and he can advise you to take antibiotics, painkillers, decongestants and steam inhalations and warm saline gargles for faster resolution of infection so that the active phase of infection subsides before surgery..
Hope this information helps..
