Can Taking Aspirin And Tylenol Together Cause Kidney Damage?

i have CKD-3 and while it s stable for many years, and SEE MY NEPHROLOGIST EVERY 6 MONTHS, i WATCH THE MEDICATIONS i TAKE. I banged into something yesterday and think I have a broken bone in my right foot, It very swollen and painful. Here s my question. I routinely take an 81mg aspirin before bed and my MD says that s OK. My wife left some Tylenol #3 on my counter to reduce the pain so I can get some sleep. Since it contains 300mg of Acetaminophen and I already took the 81mg aspirin about an hour ago, can the combined 381mg cause my kidneys a problem?

Hello,

Tylenol (with codeine I suppose?) #3 is a combination of paracetamol with codeine. Paracetamol is relatively safe for the kidneys and much safer than a non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory-drug (NSAID).

Combing paracetamol with an opioid increases its effectiveness, so that the combination is an adequately potent solution for most cases with moderate pain.

Combining 300mg of paracetamol (acetaminophen is another name for this drug) with 81mg of aspirin is not supposed to cause any more harm to the kidneys than aspirin alone.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
