Can Taking Crestor Cause Side Effects?

In the past, I have taken Pravachol, Zetia and Lipitor. My experiences with those drugs (statins) were not good. It is my position I cannot tolerate statin drugs. Now my primary health provider is strongly encouraging me to take Crestor. Her logic is that she will start me out on a low dose and if I experience side effects to adjust from there. I have looked at reviews and it reminded me of the side effects I experienced while on statin drugs. I guess I don t see the benefit of taking a type of medication that I have already had problems with and am concerned about the downside of statins. What would you do?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern about medication side effects.

Crestor is actually a statin, so side effect profile is similar to other statins like Pravachol and Lipitor which you have already tried. It is true that some patients may be more sensitive to one statin than another, but still since you've already tried 2 of them you do have a higher likelihood to develop the same side effects from Crestor.
As for what I would do, the answer depends on your lipid panel values, other conditions and cardiovascular risk factors of which you do not provide any information.
