Can Taking Levonelle After Having Unprotected Sex Avoid Pregnancy?

Hi I had unprotected sex (the condom broke) on 31st december, and took levonelle around two hours after the incident. I m expecting my period on 1st january, is there a chance i could be pregnant? Also, could taking levonelle delay my expected period?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Levonelle is a very efficient drug for the purpose of emergency contraception. The failure rate is very low. So the chance for pregnancy is unlikely. You can go for a urine pregnancy test for reassurance after two weeks.

Wishing all the best.

Thanks.
