Can Taking Orofer XT 100mg Be Safe To Improve Hemoglobin Level?
Hi,Good Afternoon Dr,My friend has got Typhoid & Dengue on 4th of July. She was admitted to hospital for 1 week.Now she is alright but her Hemoglobin is 9. Her Dr didn t prescribed any of iron tablets not even any multi vitamins.She has poly cyst too in ovaries of 5mm. She was supposed to get surgery but because of Dengue it has been delayed for 2 months.Can you please suggest me if she can take iron tablet Orofer XT 100 mg to increase her HB as she feel very tired, not active. If so please suggest me about the doses in a day.And also can you suggest any alternative therapy for ovarian cyst.Thanks for your co-operation,Hoping for immediate reply.

She has anemia. It may be due to iron deficiency or may be due to vitamin B12 deficiency or other causes. She should not take any drugs without proper diagnosis. She should go for complete blood count and peripheral smear examination and anemia profile. Then she should take treatment according to diagnosis. Small ovarian cyst can left as such. More large cyst surgery is the only treatment.

3. Initially until it reaches 11-12 g%, twice a day therapy will be helpful. Later one, one per day is adequate.
4. Get a reticulocyte count after 2 weeks, to check bone marrow response. It should show improvement.
5. For ovarian cyst, ultrasound guided puncture is usually done. Not to worry. Avoid stress, control of weight and low fat diet is necessary.
