Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking tetracyclen yesterday and I woke up today with my chest hurting. My chest hurts when I eat, drink or burp. I'm not sure if the meds had anything to do with it or not. These meds have made me feel like I have indigestion but never hurt like this. Will prilosec help?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Tetracycline is know n to cause GI disturbance and cause pain in chest particularly on swallowing anything as you have been experiencing. Yes, prilosec will help in controlling the acidity part but you also need the following in addition: Antacid for mucosal protection. Domperidone is required. Stop tetracycline. Change over to another antibiotic under the guidance of your Doctor. Avoid Tetracycline and Doxycyclin in future to avoid such problems. Probiotics, soft and bland diet and plenty of oral fluids will help further. Upper GI Endoscopy and further management may be needed if the routine therapy is not helping you.
