Can Taking Progesterone Regulate Periods After A Prolonged Delay?

I have been on estradiol transdermal patches for 1 year. 0375. Had to change my doctor and he says I must take progesterone 10 days a month along with my patch. I am 60 and have not had a period in 7 years. Will the progesterone cause me to have periods and PMS again?
