Can There Be Any Hip Disease As My 2 Year Old Is Limping?

Good Evening Dr., my 2 year old son jumped off a rock while holding mommy's hand and landed wrong. He has been limping for 6 days now. My wife is worried it might be more serious than just a sprain as he did wake up two morning in a row unable to walk about 2 months ago....x-rays were taken and were negative. The pediatrician mentioned something about a disease that attacks the hips ( forget the name ).....my wife thinks it might be this "hip disease" is the explanation for his limping

hi,

the disease you are thinking of is perthes disease. he would be toward the younger end of the spectrum for this disorder but it is possible. at this age this condition would be treated non-operatively / symptomatically only. it's important however if your child is limping to make a diagnosis and so you should take him back to your dr or to an paediatric orthopaedic surgeon to try and make a diagnosis as to the cause of his limp.

best wishes
