I am suffering with anxiety which peaks just before my period and during it. I am on Mercilon conctraceptive for about four years and wonder is there is another contraceptive that would be effective but address my anxiety also - my blood pressure is always ok when checked, maybe even on the low side, which is normal for me. I also have fluctuating thyroid levels and have had to take a course of Vit D due to difiency in this.
Hello Thyroid problems can lead to anxiety, and you mention that your thyroid levels are fluctuating , so that may be the cause. Every time there is an adjustment in your thyroid medicine, you should have your thyroid levels checked 4 to 6 weeks after the change in dosage. Mood changes are very common around the time of menstruation for many women. Unfortunately oral contraceptives do not help with anxiety. It is good you are taking Vitamin D3 for low levels, but that is not the cause of anxiety. Anxiety is due to an imbalance of neurochemicals such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. Sometimes anxiety leads to panic attacks and prescription medications are necessary. Try relaxation techniques, meditation, exercise, and journal writing all which help reduce anxiety. Best of luck
