Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thank you for the query.
I understand your concern.
You should be investigated to know the cause of your low heamoglobin. It can result from decreased production due to deficiency of iron, folic acid and/or B12. There may be loss of blood as with excess periods ( you have not mentioned your sex) or from the gut as with a GI bleed from a peptic ulcer or from piles or any other site. There can be a problem with iron absorption. You may have a haemoglobinopathy like Thalessemia or you may have problem with blood formation as in aplastic anemia or you may be destroying the red blood cells as in hemolytic anemia.
In short there are many possibilities and therefore you should see a doctor and have yourself investigated in detail, determine the cause and take the appropriate treatment and you would be fine.
I shall be happy to answer if you have more queries.
Take care

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Anemia can be due to different causes, if yours is due to low B12 then using iron replacement and a diet high in iron would not help the B12 levels.

You need to find out the reason for the low B12. It is possible that it is not being absorbed. If this is the case then additional treatment may be needed.

IF absorption is not an issue then you need B12 replacement therapy.

I hope this helps
