Can Triple Markers Show High False Positive Results?
I am 35 and half years old and expecting my second child after a gap of 10 years after the first one. Following are my reports: 14th week - NT scan - all perfect (nuchal fold thickness 0.8 mm) 17th week triple marker test: showed low risk for Trisomy 18 and Neural tube defects but 1:118 risk for Down s) 18th week anomaly scan - all perfect I am really worried about this 1:118 finding in triple marker. The present sonologist suggested me to go for amniocentesis, but I don t want to undergo such an invasive test, when USG is normal and knowing well that triple markers show high false positives. Please let me know if you have any advice for me.
HI, I understand your concern.. Triple screen test is just a screening method. Since the screen for Down's syndrome is positive, It is necessary to confirm by amniocentasis and fetal karyotyping.. Scan showing normal is a good sign.. Amniocentasis is not a very painful procedure.. It is an office procedure, so neednot worry much... Hope i have answered your queries.. Good day
