Can Twitching In Eyes And Body Muscles Be Early Sign Of ALS?
My husband begun twitching in one eye over a year and a half ago. The twitching spread to his other eye than all over his body. along with wide spread twitching he had muscle cramping. He has been evaluated by 5 top Neuros at which they all described his condition as BFS. The cramping subsided and the twitching became random but much less frequent. He is in his early 40 s and exercises with great intensity. About 2 1/2 weeks ago, he noticed a twitch in his thigh muscle that is persistent ( ongoing non stop almost like a pulse). He again went to see his Neuro and she once again called it BFS and said to check back in 4 weeks if the twitch is still there. He is worried that this could be an early sign of ALS. He does have great anxiety when it comes to his health. What are your thoughts?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, Yes, twitching in eyes, body muscles can be related to ALS-if there is family history of the condition. Apart from this, trauma to head, military service, participation in contact sports,or food contamination with blue/green algae is known to cause it, consult your expert with proper history. thanks
