Can Vaginal Fluid Pouring On A Cut In The Thigh Cause HIV Infection?

Hello doc, kindly help me on this. On Tuesday this week, i had protected sex with a lady rumored to be HIV positive. During the sex, i developed a cut on the lining between my thigh and scrotum. I felt this cut as i was showering after the sex. During sex, this lady was squirting and i bet this water from her vagina poured onto this cut. should i be at risk of contacting HIV and i take PEP or not. Kindly help me out.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

As you say this cut was sustained during the intercourse, it makes it likely that infection can be possible if the lady is confirmed positive and if her vaginal fluid actually did pour on the wound and did not get wiped.

However, the wound has to be a deep wound, capable of hosting a good amount of the vaginal fluid so that expose tissue could pick up the virus.

The best thing to do would be to get the lady tested; if she is positive, then you might be put on PEP depending on your risk viz a viz the depth or extend of the wound. If she is negative, then you do not need PEP.

However, if her HIV status can not be obtained, your risk has to be evaluated by a doctor who will examined the extend of the wound. If you have moderate or severe exposure, then you will be given the PEP.

Hope this helps
