Can Vigorous Exercising Cause Raise In Sed Rate And Soreness In Muscles?

could heavy exercise raise the sed rate? I have polymyalgia rheumatica 68 female 5'7" 210 My previouse sed rate was from a more sedentary life style of pmr. Now after 8 months of it I'm working on a ranch and getting back to exercising much more. I have to go in for another sed rate and I'm wondering if the soreness of the muscles from working could raise the sed rate?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Yes, vigorous exercising can lead to muscle soreness. The exercising can cause increase acute phase reactants due to injuries and lead to raised ESR.
2. However, at present polymyalgia rheumatica is more commonly causing raised ESR. Associated anemia needs to be evaluated.
3. ESR is only prognostic and should not be taken for any diagnosis. C-reactive protein will be more useful marker. Get your CRP done and also a routine hemogram as anemia can also contribute to increased ESR.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
