Can Vomiting And Diarrhea Be Caused By Large Sugar Intake?

Hi. My daughter had a large amount of sugar at a party Saturday. Popsicle, 2 lollipops, a HUGE pixi stick and cake. All w/i 45 minutes. She started vomiting almost immediately and could not keep anything down all day Sunday. She is still having diarreha, but can hold down food. Was this related to the large sugar intake?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Most likely this indicates an acute gastro-enteritis (bowel infection). If no fever and stool is not blood stained, need not worry now. Give frequent sips of fluids like ORS solution to avoid dehydration. Avoid sugary items and fruit juices till recovery as this may exacerbate diarrhea.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
