Can You Still Be Sexually Active With Genital Warts?
I was recently diagnosed with genital warts. I was prescribed a common topical cream for mon,we d,fri at bedtime. I have applied only twice so far. What should I expect for treatment time to vanish the warts? In the meantime is it safe to have digital contact? It is my understanding that every time my marriage partner and I have sex we must use a condom. Is that correct if we both have HPV? What precautions if any are needed? Thank you.
Depending on how big the warts are it could take 1-6 months to go away using the cream. If this a partner you have had sexual contact with for some time it is likely he has been exposed as well.
If you have placed the cream you should wash it off before sexual activity because it could cause skin irritation. HPV is very prevalent in the patient population. Condoms don't always protect against HPV since you can get it from close contact.
It is important to use condoms to protect against other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea chlamydia, syphilis and HIV if you are both not in a monogamous relationship.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
