Causal Relationship Between Pilonidal Cyst And Urinary Tract Infections?
Is there a causal relationship between a pilonidal cyst and urinary tract infections? I had a burst fracture of my L1 resulting neurogenic bowel and bladder in 2001. I perform CIC 5-6 daily. I ve dealt with the occasional UTI since quite well. A few months ago, I ve developed UTIs which keep coming back. I m allergic to PCN and Bactrim. Cipro and Macrobid are no longer effective. Even with IV antibotic treatment, Invance, they can t stop the UTIs from recurring almost immediately, if they ever go away at all. About the same time this started, I also developed a pilonidal cyst for which I m having surgery this week. I m hoping the removal of this cyst, which none of my doctors paid much attention to until recently when I went to see my family doctor specifically for it will help with final elimination of my UTI.
There is no direct relationship between a pilonidal cyst and urinary tract infection unless a fistula or a tract has been in communication with the two conditions.
So, don't be too expectant in resolution of your urinary tract infection after the pilonidal cyst removal.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
