Cause Of Swollen And Spongy Knee Without Pain?

My 9 yr old son s knee is swollen and spongy to the touch. He says it isn t painful and he still can run and walk on it fine. Basketball season has just started for him so I m wondering if he has over worked it. Can you tell me what you think might be causing this?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I think he may be having knee effusion. I would suggest you to show it to orthopaedic surgeon and get ultrasound of the knee to see if there is any fluid inside.Till that time i would suggest you to take Brufen for swelling.
