Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Every standard lab uses disposable syringes now a days and there is very less possibility of using an older syringe. If she is in doubt, she can always get in touch with the authorities to confirm the use of a new syringe. Exposure to HIV is assessed based on codes called as exposure codes and status codes which help in deciding on further action.
I would suggest that your friend stops worrying unnecessarily.
Thanks.
