Child Born With Jaundice And Fluctuating Bilirubin Levels. Why Did Her Score Fluctuate And Keep Climbing?

My daughter was born on 11/6/12. She was diagnosed quoth jaundice and has fluctuating Biliruben levels. She was released from the hospital on monday and her test from yesterday were given to us today which is now at an 11.3. When she was in the hospital under the lights the levels went down but off of the lights keep going up. She no longer has anymore of the black tar poop, or just slightly. Can you tell me why her score fluctuate and keep climbing? Also, I am exclusively breast feeding

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi

More details are needed here. On which day was jaundice seen first?
What were the investigations done?
What were the bilirubin levels when your baby was in the hospital?

Usually with treatment, the bilirubin levels follow a downward trend.
If other problems are ruled out, it may be due to breast milk jaundice too... which is a benign condition, that occurs due to certain components of breast milk. In this condition, the levels may be persistently high for 1 to 3 months even. But other major problems have to be ruled out before concluding its breastmilk jaundice.

Have her seen by the Pediatrician again.
Hope my answer helps you.
