Child Has Body Rash, Itching, Poor Appetite. Toxocara Parasite From Dog?
My 18 month old daughter has had a hive looking rash all over body for about 8 months. The rash is very itchy. Also, she has a very poor appetite and will not gain any weight. She has been at 17.8 lbs for 6 months. We have been to several doctors and no one seems to know what it is. We have a dog and do visit the dog park often. Could she possibley have toxocara parasite?

Toxocara infection can present in many ways.
One can do some blood tests like complete blood count,Elisa test for toxocara canis along with a good clinical examination.
There are many causes for rash and poor weight gain which need investigations.
Try to give a hgh protein and high calorie diet.

good morning, by the symptoms u have mentioned , ur child may be having atopic dermatitis or chronic urticaria. if the child had toxocariasis as u r suspecting, by this time , i.e 8 months, the child should have developed asthama, enlarged liver and spleen , low hemoglobin, visible tracts of toxocara migrating under the skin, visible granuloma under the skin. so if these signs are not there in ur child, do not worry about toxocariasis. still the specific tool for diagnosis is ELISA. consult a dermatologist to rule out the above said conditions. thank you
