Child Has Dysentery, Taken Pivmecilinam. Done Stool Test. What To Do?
hi ... I ve my little baby girl who has been suffering dysentry for last 10-12 days. Doctor has prescribed Pivmecilinam Hydrocloride and has been giving it to her thrice a day for last 8-9 days. Now the situation is not improved. Today we have got the stool RME report where shows Mucus - Trace, Pus Cell - 11-20, Neutral Fat - Few & Starch - Moderate. Her situation is getting worse. She is not eating, got very week. Please advice what to do.
Hello
If there is no improvement after 48-72 hrs of starting antibiotic, it should be changed. Even after receiving 8-9 days of antibiotic there is no improvement and her stool test is still showing pus cells that is suggestive of persistent infection. So I would suggest you to consult your doctor as injectable antibiotic may be needed now. Give plenty of fluid to maintain hydration of the baby.
If oral intake is poor then intravenous fluid may also required.
