Child Has Fever, Headache, Stomach Ache. Now Has Stuffy Nose. Playing Around Ditches With Frogs, Tadpoles. Bacterial, Viral?
7 yr old son. Presented today with fever -102.4- headache and stomach ache. Now has stuffy nose. Has not been aroun anyone but family recently. None of us have been sick. He has been playing a lot outside though with frogs, tad poles, in, near and around ditches. Does this sound bacterial or viral? Should i get him yo a Dr.asap or give it a few days to see if he gets better on his own?
Hello Thank you for placing your query on Health Care Magic Playing outside in dirty areas can lead to some pretty bad infections. I would suggest you to consult a pediatrician. It may well be just a viral infection and anti-pyretics (drugs for fever) medications would suffice in that case. But given that he has been playing around ditches, it would be more comfortable to run a few blood tests to be absolutely sure. Mosquito bites in such areas may lead to malaria or even worse dengue. If he eats with out washing hands he may get a bacterial gastro-enteritis or even typhoid fever. Considering the nature of such diseases I would recommend you to consult a pediatrician. Not in the emergency but at least as a routine out patient visit. Hope that helps God bless you 'Dr Anand Sinha
