Child Has Flat Head On One Side, No Improvement With Helmet. Chances Of Improvement?

My daughter, who is now 21 months old, had a flat head on the side. she got the helmet to correct it and wore it from about 7 months to about 12 months. When it was removed it was still slightly flat, but a lot better than what it was. So now I have two concerns. will the flatness ever get any better? But more so, my bigger concern is about a dent I found rubbing her head. The dent is about 1 and 1/2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide running down the side of her head. It's right around her ear and runs up to the top of the skull. Should I be worried and will this go away? This is something new. I thought about calling her ped. But he doesn't seem to take any of my concerns serious. We had mentioned the flattness for a long time before he sent us to a specialist.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

The problem of flatness of the head on one side happens due to early fusion of the sutures of the skull bones (Craniostenosis) .If the child is growing normal then this flattening is only of cosmetic importance .

You can consult a neurosurgeon who after assessing might leave it for the time being for self correction .If the abnormal structure of the skull is leading to abnormality in the growth of brain internally or increasing the intracranial tension then he might like to operate and separate the sutures early.

Take Care.
