Child Has Mitochondrial Disease, Positive Type A Influenza, Low Appetite, Distended Tummy,on Tamiflu. What Signs Should Be Watched For?
My four year old daughter has a mitochondrial disease and has tested positive for type A influenza . She is currently taking Tamiflu but is refusing to eat or drink. She will not allow me to run anything through her g-button. She starts screaming that is hurts after about 30 minutes of pedialyte running at 53cc s per hour and her tummy starts to look distended. She is also dry heaving (has had a Nissen Fundo so she can t vomit ). I am concerned about her dehydrating. What signs do I need to look for and when should I take her to the ER if needed?

good evening, u should look into signs of dehydartion- dry skin, dry oral cavity, sunken eyes, decreased urine out put ect. other signs u should look into signs of pneumonia - hurried breathing, chest retractions, labored breathing and cyanosis. also watch for tenderness in the right half of the abdomed, just right and below the umbilicus, if its too tender to touch, then we ll ahve to doubt for appendicitis. all these are danger signs.

The signs you need to look for dehydration are sunken and listless eyes, irritability, lack of tears when crying, doughy skin, decreased urine output and fatigue.
Your child has mitochondrial disease which can itself present with gastrointestinal disorders. Also you mentioned that your child is having distention and pain even on giving Pedialyte through the G-button.
In such a situation, you must take your child to the ER.
Apart from the signs of dehydration mentioned above, it will be easy to monitor her BP in ER as BP can drop when dehydration sets in.
So taking her to the ER will be a good option.
